WHY SHOULD I BUY A STEEL BIKE INSTEAD OF A CARBON ONE?

We’d like to approach this question in a different way. Why should you buy a bicycle that is designed to work for thousands of completely different people and try to adapt yourself to it? And one which is manufactured thousands of kilometers away from you? And what’s more important… Why should you spend a hell lot of money on a bicycle your neighbor could have?

Super light bicycles, aero bikes, disc bikes… the road cycling market has gone through different phases that have led all consumers to change their bikes year after year to fit the current trend. The selling proposition is renewed and therefore the marketing behind it.

The truth is that what will make you feel good, improve your results and finish each training with the desire of more is the feeling of riding a bicycle made exclusively for you, and in which creations, you took part. Neither the weight saving of the lightest frame, nor the 5 watts of the most aerodynamic; it will be the reflection of yourself embodied in a bicycle which makes the most of all your dedication and effort.

WHY STAINLESS STEEL? WHY REYNOLDS?

Hemos fabricado bicicletas con acero y con inoxidable. Ambos tiene un peso similar, pero la mayor resistencia del segundo permite a los fabricantes hacer tuberías con un espesor de pared menor, lo que se traducen en un peso final más reducido. Esta reducción de peso no compromete la rigidez del conjunto, al contrario, los cuadros de acero inoxidable son populares por su rigidez, resistencia a la fatiga y, evidentemente, resistencia a la corrosión. Estas características del material hacen que sea muy difícil de trabajar, por lo que solo encontramos tubería redonda y no con formas geométricas. También es más difícil de cortar y soldar, pero eso es nuestro problema.

Fabricar en inoxidable nos permite crear bicicletas a medida con montajes del más alto nivel manteniendo un precio final dentro de los márgenes en los que se mueve el mercado del ciclismo, además de hacerlo con un peso muy competitivo. Pedalear en una bicicleta de acero ofrece unas sensaciones, confianza y aplomo que difícilmente encontraríamos en cualquier otro material.

Reynolds fabrica tubería desde 1898. Suma 27 victorias en el Tour de Francia y antes de la introducción de materiales como el aluminio, carbono o titanio se consideraba como el mayor y mejor fabricante de materiales de alta tecnología para la fabricación de cuadros. Hoy día sigue a la vanguardia innovando constantemente con aceros a la altura de cualquier carbono de última generación. La gama 953 es, actualmente, la mejor considerada de cara a bicicletas enfocadas al máximo rendimiento. Como dato curioso, aceros con características similares se usan para aplicaciones aeroespaciales y, debido a sus altos niveles de resistencia, se fabrica a partir de planchas dobladas sobre si mismas que posteriormente se sueldan y pulen hasta ser un tubo perfecto.

DO YOU MAKE NON-ROAD BIKES?

Usually no. We believe in specialisation as one of the keys to be the best in what we do. We focus on high performance road bikes with competition (at all levels) in mind.

However we are cyclists and we like all bicycles, so we are open to any proposal that we may get and will always appreciate and consider it. Do you want to race the Trans Am and need a touring? Do you want to race a crazy mix of road, mud and cobblestones challenge and need a gravel? Head to our contact section and tell us what’s on your mind.

DO YOU SALE SPARE FRAMES?

We mostly don’t. We understand the bicycle as a whole, not as a technical specifications sheet. That’s why we design the whole bike starting from a bespoke frame and the best components for it.

We make use of our experience to help you find the components selection which best suits your physical characteristics and your way of riding. The final result is, without any doubt, much better than if we only gave you a frame.

However, once again, we are open to proposals for projects with components that you already have at the moment. We invite you to get in touch with us and try to convince the freak guy that manages this stuff.

WHY YOU ONLY USE BSA BOTTOM BRACKET?

Tras probar extensamente bicicletas con los diferentes estándares de caja de pedalier nos decantamos por la rosca BSA de toda la vida por su fiabilidad, facilidad de mantenimiento, ausencias de ruidos y la posibilidad de montar prácticamente todas las bielas del mercado, incluyendo aquellas con eje de 30mm. Además el conjunto incluyendo caja y bielas tiene el peso total más reducido de todos.

Confiamos la transmisión mayoritariamente a FSA haciendo uso de su potenciómetro PowerBox, que solemos acompañar de un eje de pedalier de rosca cerámico de la misma marca. Este conjunto de precio contenido ofrece fiabilidad en todas las condiciones, facilidad para encontrar recambio y máximo rendimiento gracias al standard propio EVO386 con eje de aluminio de 30mm.

HOW CAN I PAINT MY BIKE? WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO PAINT IT?

As you want. As long as we also like it… but don’t freak out, we are easy going.

Each Oleka bike is a unique project with its own name, so we start from scratch in all the designs. As we explained in our process, we make as many sketches as is necessary until we reach the scheme and colors which both parties like. We are flexible even in the placement and size of our logo.

We paint our bikes in JL Paint, a painting workshop specialized in complicated stuff located in the city of Tarragona.
